“El grupo argentino Baalbek hizo su debut con "Fata Morgana" (el nombre original de la banda). Este se presena como un grupo compuesto por cinco personas que, a menudo, muestra una variante más pomposa y rockera que el trabajo de "Happy the Man". Los 13 temas instrumentales están compactados (todos entre 3 y 5 minutos), pero tienen, igualmente, mucha variación en los solos, cortos y rápidos. Por ello, se origina una música algo caótica pero ciertamente, un accesible rock sinfónico que se asemeja al jazz-rock con un papel principal para la tan melódica como apasionada música del guitarrista Gonzalo Romero y el teclado colmado de buen sonido de Eduardo Gustavino. Se destacan los momentos en los cuales el saxofón, con sus picantes interrupciones, tiende a sonar como "Alquin". Aunque en la interesante balada "Me Fuí" se escucha un ritmo up-tempo, quedan suficientes giros musicales para seguirla atento. El sonido se caracteriza aquí por ser un poco latoso, típico ritmo sudamericano, sobretodo en la batería pero igualmente sale ampliamente fuerte de los parlantes. Fata Morgana es suficiente alternativa para todas esas bandas progresivas que hoy prefieren tocar melodías de 30 minutos."

"BAALBEK est un nouveau groupe argentin en provenance de Buenos Aires, terre décidément assez prolifique actuellement pour ce qui nous concerne. Malgré une iconographie de pochette qui se veut ésotérique et des titres de morceaux qui font référence aux mondes du mystère et de l'ombre (fata Morgana, Baba Yaga, Cryptico...), la musique semble inspirée par un enthousisme et une chaleur toute sud-américaine. L'inspirateur principal du groupe est le guitariste Gonzalo Romero et l'on n'est pas surpris de voir que c'est la guitare qui régente tout, qui du moins donne le tempo, désalaissant un rôle de faire-valoir aux claviers et au saxophone. A l'exception d'un ou deux morceaux qui se veulent plus atmosphériques, l'ensemble des compositions déboule sur des tempos rapides. On pense souvent aux Sud-américains de Acidente, Brésiliens ceuxlá, avec un je ne sais quoi de néo. La musique s'avère extrêmement plaisante et agréable, même si l'album se présente un peu comme une carte de visite, un panorama de toutes les facetes du groupe. On aimerait bien que le groupe développe davantage d'ensemble. Un groupe à suivre.

"Album premiere of this Argentinean quintet of instrumental progressive rock. Originating of the city of La Plata, these chavos has playing together from 1994. And it is noticed. From the first court, one receives an overwhelming execution on the part of all the musicians that sound extremely coupled and where all have their moment of glory in the disk. The style, although inside the slope of the progressive rock, this more near the coalition that any other style. In the most vertiginous moments they remind me a little to Mahavishnu Orchestra (without the violin), and in the most electronic to the Brazilian band (and record roommates) Blesqui Zatsas. "Sin dudas es un disco diferente. Fata Morgana no está enrolado dentro del rock netamente progresivo sinfónico, sino que es una obra de fusión que utiliza elementos de elaboración más que interesantes. Baalbek es un grupo instrumental, con una identidad bien definida pero no estática. Se permiten bucear en distintas aguas en una búsqueda por demás atractiva. Esa diversidad de horizontes hace que este álbum suene fresco y elaborado a la vez."
